It was a pleasure for BalBharati’s M J Pancholia College of Commerce to co-ordinate the Orientation Programme, ROSA 5, under the able guidance and direction of Dr. K. Shanthi, Director, LJGC HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, University Of Mumbai, Kalina Campus, Santacruz during the period, February 6, 2017 and March 4, 2017.

The Orientation Programme spanned across 4 weeks, was attended by 37 teacher participants from various streams like Literature, Commerce, Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry etc. It was a truly composite mixof all round knowledge with the faculties representing their respective academic streams. The Programme was inaugurated by Dr. M S Khurhade, Principal DTSS College and Dean of Arts Faculty, University Of Mumbai. The learned speaker defined the role Of teachers as pivotal in shaping the future Of India. He brought forth in clear terms the need for good teachers, who have updated knowledge, who undertake research and who motivate their learners too to undertake research. He gave a great insight into the working of the IJGC and especially highlighted the role of LJGC Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC). He spoke generously about the relentless efforts taken by IJGC HRDC and its contributions in carving and shaping the modern day teachers.

The Director of IJGC HRDC, Dr. Shanthi, spoke of the important role played by IJGC HRDC in the academic life of a faculty member and gave a brief outline of the programmes conducted by it. She further provided a brief glimpse of the Orientation programme and emphasized the role of discipline amongst the teachers. The Orientation Programme was scheduled with an objective of providingmulti-disciplinary information and knowledge to the teacher participants within the frame work Of RI-ISA. Apart from attending the above sessions, the teacher participants did a Book Review of books not related to their core subject; ranging from societal issues to autobiographies. The teacher participants also gave presentations on various current topics like GST, Recent advances in Mathematical and Physical Sciences etc in the symposia organized during the programme.

The Valedictory session was chaired by Dr. Abhay Pethe, Director Of the Department Of Economics, University of Mumbai. Dr. K. Shanthi, Director IJGC – HRDC was also present for the function. All the successful candidates were issued Merit Certificates on the completion of the Orientation Programme. The teacher participants of the ROSA 5 programme released a Newsletter Souvenir covering the entire Orientation Programme.
